Beagle
The Snoopy of the Dog World
Beagles are the investigative journalists of the dog world, always on the case and sniffing out any and all opportunities for adventure. With their adorable floppy ears, inquisitive expressions, and a nose that’s always in the air (or on the ground, depending on the scent), Beagles are one of the most lovable breeds around.
Originating in England as scent hounds for hunting, Beagles are intelligent, curious, and energetic—always ready to take on a new adventure, whether it's a hike in the woods or a hunt for a rogue piece of food in the kitchen. Beagles have an incredible sense of smell (which, let’s be honest, is a little too good when it comes to finding dropped snacks). Their tendency to follow scents can get them into trouble if you're not careful, so expect a few random sprints down the street or across the yard as they follow their noses.
But despite their tendency to chase after every interesting scent they find, Beagles are incredibly affectionate and great with children. They have a playful, friendly disposition and make wonderful companions for active families. They do need regular exercise to burn off all that energy (and sniffing), but they’re also content with a good cuddle at the end of the day. If you want a dog who’s equally good at keeping you entertained and stealing your snacks, the Beagle might be your perfect match.
